"Bluestone Pullover"
by Kelsey Stephens
The Bluestone Pullover, my very first sweater design, was inspired by my love for the Pocono Mountains and the stunning scenery that can be found there.
Each year, my family and I try to plan a scenic escape to the Poconos around the end of Winter, just in time to catch the brisk transition into Spring.  If you have ever been to the Poconos, you know that there is an endless supply of inspiration to be found there.  The colors, the rustic and warm setting, the beautiful mountain homes; it feels like each time we take the trip, we discover another magical place that makes this location so special to our family.
This trip, we stayed at an amazing cottage house, located at the top of a mountain, with an amazing waterfall right out our back door.  Aptly named: "The Bluestone Cottage", it seemed only fitting to commemorate our trip by naming this sweater after it.
This sweater is worked from the top down, splitting for the sleeves, and then working the majority of the colorwork at the bottom of the sweater, before working a split hem.  The sleeves are then picked up and knit flat, which at about half way has a small colorwork motif which acts as mock-elbow patches, and then the sleeves are knit down to the cuff.  You complete the sleeves by using a seamless mattress stitch, beginning at the bottom cuff, and sewing all the way up to the underarm.
